CHAMPIONS of Early Childhood Education

Contributions provided through the Champions of Early Childhood Education program through the Early Learning Investment Committee and the Greater Susquehanna Valley United Way would provide funding for:

  • Every Baby Needs A Lap Top: a program which teaches parents the importance of reading, singing and talking to their children - $50.00 supports one family

  • Wee Read: a program in which volunteers spend time at local WIC offices reading to chilldren, giving away books and distributing information about the importance of child brain development and literacy - $10.00 supports one child

  • Dolly Parton's Imagination Library: a program governed by the Women's Leadership Council which focuses on literacy by delivering a book a month to a child (aged 0-5) - $25.00 supports one child per year

  • Pre-K scholarship programs: funding designed to help parents, earning up to 250% of the poverty level, pay for high quality pre-k programs (this program is EITC eligible) - $125.00 provides a child with high quality childcare for one week

  • Childcare provider training and miscellaneous costs: stipends to help small local childcare centers meet the costs associated with maintaining or achieving high quality status, which often serves as a barrier - $175.00 provides a training to 25 childcare providers

  • Educational Sponsorships: funding which enables programs, meetings and summits to be hosted for the purpose of educating various audiences about the important initiatives related to early childhood education - $250.00 or more can help sponsor an educational event

Donors can provide an unrestricted gift to the Champions program, which would allow the funding to be spent where it is needed most. Or donors may restrict their gift to any early childhood education initiative and still qualify as a Champion.
